Description
"Raising the Flag at Ground Zero" or, "Dan, George & Bill" is one of the world' s most famous images. NEW VERSIONS OF ORIGINAL ART OF THIS SCENE ARE AVAILABLE - Contact the artist via this page link.
This version was done as a Shadowbox, Sold to a family with youngsters, to share at School.
The story behind the image is famous and follows here:
.................................................................................
It was after noon, on September 11, 2001. World Trade Center Building Seven was about to collapse. Firefighters from Engine 255 and Ladder 157 in Brooklyn had been digging in the rubble for survivors for six gruelling hours, when they got the call to immediately evacuate. Heading out with the others of 157, Dan McWilliams spotted a flag flying on a boat behind World Financial Center. Respectfully seizing the flag, he tagged fellow 157 firefighter, George Johnson, "Gimme a hand, will ya'?" George caught the idea immediately, and soon the two were joined by Billy Eisengren of Rescue 2 , also from Brooklyn. Quickly they tagged the best spot for the flag - 20 feet off the ground on West Street, and the trio set it flying securely. It was at that moment that photographer T.E. Franklin spotted the scenario and snapped the now-iconic photo, soon raising dashed spirits worldwide! More on the story can be found at http://www.wwnfsept11.com...and in our individual hearts and memory, as a symbol of rally after a fall...and of eternal hope and love for Valiant human spirit. Thank you for viewing "Raising the Flag at Ground Zero"

Thanks, Colin, for your comment. A lot of my work is more mature, but I did this one for our children, in the style I used in the schools when my own chidren were little and I worked in classrooms and children's groups and events. The original artwork showed first at our local children's library, and was a shadowbox, and soon sold to a California Stockbroker, who gave it to his grandchildren, who , in turn, share it in the schools. When I can do that with my art, it is very rewarding! May we never forget! May we come up with some of the same brave and proud heart if ever the moment arises!
